I am opposed to most diet plans because of the expense (you have to buy their foods), the recommended calorie reduction foods(the starvation mode), and other strange recommended supplements to make your body do strange things. Of course, nobody wants to up their metabolism by exercise so it seems easier to eat properly. Increasing metabolism by mild or moderate exercise or simple walking would suffice but doing some type of muscular activity daily would be a super way to lose weight properly. It is an old process to calculate daily calories but frankly it is important. Most people eat way too many calories in a day and don't offset those additional calories by exercising or burning them off.
All this being said, there is a diet that I support and it is easy and it costs nothing. Even insulin resistance can be overcome and diabetes can be improved or cured.
It is called the 18/6 diet. Let me explain: You eat no food until noon each day. Then the last meal is at 6:00 PM. Then after six in the evening, you don't have any food for 18 hours. You can have snacks through the six hour period of noon to six but they should be proper snacks such as raw fruits or vegetables. You can also drink all the water you want throughout the day but no soda pop. Obviously, if you are in a hard labor job where you need sustenance in the morning, this diet is not for you.Following this diet plan, you should eat a reasonable lunch and a reasonable supper. Nothing later. Remember, going out to eat, you are generally going to be served high calorie meals because of huge portions. In that case, take some home for lunch the next day. It may take a few days to acclimatize but it really works and your blood glucose will improve. The nice part about this diet, it can be done consistently and always. Not just a short period of time. Now, for those that need to cheat a bit: If necessary, have a V-8 juice in the morning or a couple of eggs. No toast. There are some great V-8 juice recipes on the internet for home made. A piece or two of Beef Jerky without MSG in the evening is tasty and a low glycemic snack. There is a lot of scientific validity to this type of diet. You won't be sorry for following this plan for weight loss, glucose regulation, and insulin resistance.
